Many of our connections to the community happen while tabling outside of Allegheny County Jail (ACJ). We provide what we can to those being released from behind prison walls, from a phone call and a cigarette to bus tickets out of state or transportation to emergency housing. Here, we also have the chance to share our services with those paying visits to or filling commissary for imprisoned loved ones.
Jailbreak is an autonomous, free-form coalition of abolitionists in Pittsburgh working to support incarcerated and formerly incarcerated people inside of Allegheny County Jail.
We formed as a response to the horrendous conditions inside ACJ and as a response to the lack of resources formerly incarcerated people receive when they are re-entering society.
We do not believe in the possibility of ethical prison reform and instead advocate for the abolition of police, courts, jails and all detention centers. We believe no human should be in a cage and encourage the exploration and implementation of transformative justice and community accountability models of dealing with harm.
We have no formal leadership and encourage anyone (YOU!) to get involved. Everyone/all of us are accountable for the continuation of this project. Let’s all work to create better conditions for incarcerated and formerly incarcerated people in Pittsburgh.
The Bukit Bail Fund of Pittsburgh is a coalation of individuals and organizations striving to provide support for those incarcerated at Allegheny County Jail, located in Pittsburgh, PA. We hope to not just provide bail, but also to increase our capacity for supporting people after they have been released.
We are working to get people released from jail as quickly as possible. We call for an end to cash bail in Pittsburgh and everywhere. We believe no one should be in a cage.
We are a group of autonomous community members helping folks in the Greater Pittsburgh area connect with one another to share resources and get support as we navigate the COVID-19 crisis and ongoing economic impacts.
